TAKE NOTICE that the Transportation Division of the Suffolk County Department of Public Works has been directed by Suffolk County Legislative Resolution 1098-2011 to hold public hearings to consider implementing increased fares on Suffolk County Transit (SCT) fixed route bus lines.
Pending the outcome of this public hearing, the proposed bus fares would be scheduled to take effect on Tuesday,
May 1, 2012. The fares as proposed would be:
One-way, Full Fare: $2.25
SCT bus lines S92 and 10C (to reflect Sunday service on these lines)
One-way, Full Fare: $2.00
All other SCT bus lines
Student Fare: $1.25
One-way Seniors, Persons with Disabilities, Medicare Card Holders: $0.75
Transfer: $0.25
THE FIRST HEARING will be held on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, also from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in the Media Room of the H. Lee Dennison Building, 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, New York.
THE SECOND HEARING will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm in the Suffolk County Legislature’s Meeting Room in the County Center Building on Center Drive, Riverhead, New York.
AT THESE HEARINGS, an opportunity will be afforded for all interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to the effect on energy conservation and the social, economic and environmental impact of the proposed fare changes and to submit evidence and recommendations, orally or in writing, with respect to the proposed fare changes. Those wishing to be heard may in advance, either by mail or in person, at the hearing. It is advisable to pre-register by mail prior to the hearing inasmuch as such registrants will be heard first. Mail registrations should be sent to Garry Lenberger, Acting Director of Transportation Operations, Suffolk County DPW, Division of Transportation, 335 Yaphank Avenue, Yaphank, New York 11980-9744.
It is required that persons making oral presentations limit their comments to five minutes. Written testimony may be submitted Garry Lenberger both before and up to five (5) days following the hearing.
Interpreter services will be made available to deaf persons, at no charge, upon written request submitted no later than 10 days prior to the scheduled public hearing. The written request must be sent to Garry Lenberger at the above-noted address.
The public hearing has been scheduled at a place that is accessible to persons with a mobility impairment. Wheelchair-lift-equipped Suffolk County Transit bus service is available to the H. Lee Dennison Building via Routes S27, S33, S45, S54 and S62 and to the Riverhead County Center via Routes S58, S62, S66, S90, S92 and 8A. FOLLOWING THESE HEARINGS a written report on the findings of the public hearings and recommendations regarding an increase in bus fares will be submitted to the County Executive and each member of the Suffolk County Legislature no later than forty-five (45) days subsequent to the conclusion of the public hearings.
